The 2023 IEEE 12th International Conference on Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems: Technology and Applications (IDAACS), www.idaacs.net, was held in Dortmund, Germany, 7-9 September, 2023 in a hybrid mode.

The main goal of the IDAACS`2023 is to provide a forum for high quality reports on the state-of-the-art theory, technology and applications of Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computer Systems as used in measurement, automation, and scientific research, in industry and in business. The importance of IDAACS is its vision to establish scientific contacts between research teams and scientists from different countries for future joint research collaborations.

A family of IDAACS has already been created since the IEEE 1st IDAACS Conference was in Foros, Crimea, Ukraine, July 1-4, 2001. After that the following IDAACS Conferences were held in Lviv, Ukraine, 2003, Sofia, Bulgaria, 2005, Dortmund, Germany, 2007, Rende (Cosenza), Italy, 2009, Prague, Czech Republic, 2011, Berlin, Germany, 2013, Warsaw, Poland, 2015, Bucharest, Romania, 2017, Metz, France, 2019, Cracow, Poland, 2021. Moreover, IDAACS Symposia on Wireless Systems (SWS) were held in Offenburg, Germany in 2012, 2014, 2016, in Lviv, Ukraine in 2018, and in Dortmund, in 2020.

The conference venue in 2023 was the city of Dortmund, located in the Ruhr Valley which has been the industrial (steel and coal) heartland of Germany. Dortmund was one of the largest steel production sites, same as Bochum, Herne and Gelsenkirchen, the other partner cities of IDAACS 2023 in the Ruhr Valley. Nowadays, the region has been transformed into a technology and innovation hub with many universities and research institutes.

Participants of IDAACS will experience this blend of old, heavy industries and modern, innovative ideas and businesses. The main conference site will be the campus of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Fachhochschule Dortmund).

The conference was supported and sponsored by IEEE Ukraine Section I&M / CI Joint Societies Chapter, IEEE Germany Section I&M Society Chapter, Ruhrvalley Cluster e.V. The DeepTech Innovation Network, MDPI Sensors, MagneticOne and River Publishers.

The 337 papers were submitted by authors from the 55 countries.

The 223 papers were accepted for a publication in the Conference proceedings after the reviewing process. All the presentations were organized into the 4 types of paper presentation format: on-site oral, on-site poster, online oral and online poster presentation. Hence there were: 17 on-site oral, 2 on-site poster, 12 online oral and 5 online poster sessions.

266 participants took part in the conference, 150 of them on site, 116 online.

The youngest participant was 21 years old, the oldest was 84.
